O Gran Camiño 26 reached 819 million people and generated an advertising value equivalent of €36.8 million

O Gran Camiño 2026, which travelled through all four Galician provinces over five stages last April, was a top-level sporting event that showcased Galicia around the world and generated a significant direct economic return for businesses and organisations in the region, as well as added advertising value.

To obtain reliable impact metrics, the organisers turned to Cision, the leading multinational in return analysis, which quantified the impact of the five stages in terms of media coverage and economic return.

According to the report, the event reached more than 819 million people worldwide through its various channels and generated an advertising value equivalent of €36.8 million.

Eurosport’s television coverage alone reached 5.5 million viewers on European linear channels, a figure that does not include audiences on HBO Max and in other geographical regions, such as Asia/Pacific or the Americas, coverage on ETB, or the event’s significant presence on TVG.

In total, the race received more than 158 hours of television exposure, over 5,000 news stories published by media outlets worldwide and almost half a million online interactions.

LOCAL REINVESTMENT

The year-on-year growth of the race and its budget, thanks to the combined support of the Xunta de Galicia, the four provincial councils and our private sponsors, represented, according to the data, a highly profitable reinvestment in terms of Galicia’s visibility and promotion.

The organisers also demonstrated, once again, a strong commitment to Galicia’s business and commercial community, with significant investment in consumables, materials, food and accommodation. The event involved 80 direct suppliers and more than 120 Galician companies, professionals and businesses.

The more than 126,500 kilometres travelled throughout Galicia by the O Gran Camiño 2026 convoy, including its substantial setup team, involved 3,500 overnight stays in hotels across the region and 15,000 meal services, all provided by local hospitality businesses. More than 11,000 litres of fuel were purchased at local service stations and petrol stations.

In total, the event directly involved the work of almost 700 people and approximately 40,000 accumulated working hours in preparation, production and delivery, involving both EME Sports staff and collaborating Galician companies from a wide range of sectors.

The O Gran Camiño team is already immersed in designing and preparing the 2027 edition of the race, a special edition to mark the Xacobeo Holy Year, which will remain true to the race’s defining features: its commitment to Galicia, the Camino de Santiago and a route through all four provinces.
