O Gran Camiño has finally achieved its goal of leaving behind the month of February—and its unpredictable weather—and will celebrate its fifth edition from April 14 to 18, in spring, as reflected in the official UCI calendar for the upcoming season.
From the organization of the major Galician professional tour, the director of OGC, Ezequiel Mosquera, expressed his satisfaction with the UCI’s decision to approve the change of dates, a move that will help avoid the high risk of storms and low temperatures typical of February, which the race has suffered from in previous editions.
“We’ll enjoy the organization more ourselves, and the spectators will enjoy the race more,” Mosquera promised, noting that it was necessary for the event to “move forward in the season” now that it has already earned recognition in the cycling and sporting world.
Initially, OGC chose February because it was a period when it could “stick its head out a bit” and find a place in teams’ sporting calendars as a newly established event. After four successful editions in which the top names of international cycling have ridden through Galicia—and which have showcased the region to the world—the teams “already know” the quality of both the race and its organization. This, explains the head of EME Sports, allows the event to move forward on the calendar.
In 2026, the organization of O Gran Camiño will once again put all its effort, dedication, and enthusiasm into staging Galicia’s greatest cycling spectacle—which, this time, will take place in April.
