Santiago de Compostela, Tuesday, July 26

The official vehicles for O Gran Camiño 2026 have been presented.
This morning saw the presentation of the agreement between O Gran Camiño and BYD, making the world’s leading electric vehicle manufacturer the official vehicle partner of the 2026 edition. Next year’s edition promises numerous new features.
The event was attended by Antonio Leira (Sports Deputy of the Provincial Council of A Coruña), Miguel Ángel Lastra (Head of BYD Motor), Ildefonso de la Campa (Director of the Xacobeo Galicia Society), María Gómez Dobarro (Traffic Coordinator in Galicia), Modesto Rouco (Secretary General for Sport), Álvaro Pino, Sofía Toro (Manager of the Galician Sports Industry Cluster), and Blas García (Mayor of Ames).
Ezequiel Mosquera, Director of O Gran Camiño, emphasized the importance of this agreement: “Because of the trajectory, message, and identity of the event. We want to be more than just a conventional race. Having a zero-emissions agreement is very important to us. Today, we kick off the 2026 edition, and we do so without combustion engines. From the organization’s point of view, we have 130 cyclists and around 700 people in the supporting caravan, which is why electric mobility is essential to show our respect for the environment.” Regarding the 2026 edition, Mosquera announced that efforts are underway to schedule the race for the third week of April, with the aim of reaching a higher category within the UCI ranking.
Miguel Ángel Lastra, Head of BYD Motor, recalled the company’s beginnings as a battery manufacturer and the path it has followed to become the global leader in the electric vehicle market. Lastra expressed BYD’s commitment to supporting sustainable events, which made the agreement with O Gran Camiño an easy decision: “With these vehicles, cyclists are not surrounded by emissions from combustion engines — they benefit from zero emissions.” He encouraged the public to discover BYD’s vehicles, marketed by Resnova Motor at their dealerships in Lalín, Caldas de Reis, and Santiago de Compostela. “These are state-of-the-art vehicles in terms of technology and can be fully charged in under half an hour.”
BYD, the world’s leading electric vehicle brand, is entering professional cycling in Spain for the first time. During the Galician tour, the race caravan will travel using the BYD Seal U-DMI model, a plug-in hybrid vehicle making a strong entry into the market.
