The Portuguese Cycling Federation and Emesports announced this morning a collaboration agreement for the organization of the Volta a Portugal in 2026.
The agreement also includes the Volta ao Algarve and the Volta ao Alentejo.
Emesports, the company behind O Gran Camiño, has just signed an agreement to become a strategic partner of the Portuguese Cycling Federation (FPC). In this way, the Galician company will work with the FPC providing support to organize the Volta a Portugal, as well as the Volta ao Algarve and Volta ao Alentejo. The Portuguese organization begins a new stage and has chosen EMESPORTS as a strategic partner to organize the country’s three main cycling events.
The Galician company brings to the FPC its experience in event organization, as well as the logistics required to carry out three historic races in a country where cycling has extraordinary roots.
The agreement will be in effect during 2026, with the option to extend it.
It will be a transitional season for Portuguese cycling following the restructuring experienced after the last edition of the Volta a Portugal. The FPC expresses its confidence in EMESPORTS “for the experience accumulated in organizing this type of event, which gives it a profile suitable for the Federation’s requirements.”
Cândido Barbosa, president of the Portuguese Federation, considers that: “Ezequiel Mosquera’s company combines the experience, credibility, and international vision we aspire for our competitions. We want to ensure stronger, more professional events, prepared for the challenges of the future.”
At the presentation event, Ezequiel Mosquera thanked the Portuguese Federation for considering EMESPORTS to take on a challenge of this magnitude. “The Volta a Portugal is a race with tradition and history, and as someone familiar with it, I believe it is one of the most established races in the world. It is a race of extraordinary dimension, with impressive audiences, and it is about to celebrate its 100th anniversary.”
For the EMESPORTS team, it is a challenge on all levels, but it is a national heritage of the country, and “now the goal is to internationalize the race.”
The joint organization model for the three Portuguese races will debut in 2026, although it could be expanded if it proves successful. The Volta a Portugal do Futuro will be organized exclusively by the FPC.
